Dear Fellow Ice Anglers and Open Water Anglers,
The following letter will be sent to the Joint Committe on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife on your behalf when you fill out the form below:
To: All members of the Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife
Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Roland D. Martin
I am sending you this e-mail to register my concerns and ask that you vote against LD 285.
LD 285 as originally proposed would circumvent the management practices of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. IFW oversight and direction is a function of the Legislature, not day-to-day management of our resources. Highly skilled and well paid resource managers are employed by the Fisheries Division of IFW and I believe that they should make the fisheries resource management decisions based upon scientific field evaluations. Turning these responsibilities over to the Joint Committee is bad for the Committee, bad for the sporting public and very bad for the resource itself.
Furthermore, LD 285 is unneeded. At the present time, IFW has a Working Group that is reviewing the very issue that is the core of LD 285. In fact, LD 285 has caused the Working Group to cease activity until LD 285 passes through the legislative process.
I ask you to please vote against LD 285 and allow the Working Group to finish their mission.
